ÍELTS Speaking Band Descriptors
In the Speaking module, candidates are evaluated across four key areas: Task Achievement, Coherence and Fluency, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
Task Achievement: Evaluates how well candidates fulfill the speaking task requirements, maintain coherence, and provide relevant and extended responses.
Coherence and Fluency: Assesses the ability to speak at length without undue hesitation, repetition, or self-correction, and to use cohesive devices effectively to connect ideas.
Lexical Resource: Examines the range and accuracy of vocabulary, including the ability to convey precise meaning, use idiomatic expressions, and paraphrase effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Assesses the range and accuracy of grammatical structures used, including the ability to use a variety of sentence structures and produce error-free sentences.
Understanding these band descriptors helps candidates identify their strengths and weaknesses in speaking and focus on areas for improvement to achieve their desired band score in the IELTS Speaking module.
